Bounce Journal Assignment Instructions

Overview

This learning activity seeks to foster a greater awareness of and attention to preventative self-care strategies. It is designed to be a helpful evidence-based reflection on a leading resiliency expert’s research.

Instructions

This learning activity is comprised of three submissions. For each submission, you will read assigned chapters in Bounce: Living the Resilient Life (2010) and write a concise, comprehensive “So What?!”  A three-part journal entry follows the convincing pitch to get the reader involved.  The body of the Bounce Journal should be least 2 pages.

The “So What?!” must be proofread to eliminate grammar and spelling errors, and address assigned chapters.

1) “What Did I Find?  (citation with pagination/location required)

2) “What Did I Think and/or Feel?”

3) “What Am I Going to Do?”

First Bounce Journal Entry

Title: Building Resilience: Insights from Introduction and Stress Management

So What?!: In these initial chapters, Wicks lays the foundation for understanding resilience and offers practical strategies for managing stress effectively.

  1. What Did I Find?
    • (Wicks, 2010, p. 1-45)
      Wicks introduces the concept of resilience and emphasizes the importance of having a fulfilling life beyond mere survival. He highlights the distinction between chronic and acute stress, providing insights into navigating life’s challenges.
  2. What Did I Think and/or Feel?
    Wicks’ emphasis on proactive self-care resonated deeply with me. His anecdotes about individuals overcoming adversity were inspiring and made me reflect on my own approach to managing stress.
  3. What Am I Going to Do?
    I plan to create a personalized self-care protocol, drawing insights from Wicks’ suggestions. Additionally, I will prioritize activities that contribute to my overall well-being and resilience.

Second Bounce Journal Entry

Title: Cultivating Resilience through Relationships and Self-Reflection

So What?!: Wicks explores the role of friendships, self-awareness, and mindfulness in fostering resilience, providing actionable steps for personal growth.

  1. What Did I Find?

      Wicks underscores the significance of supportive relationships in resilience-building and guides readers through self-reflection exercises aimed at enhancing self-awareness and mindfulness.
  2. What Did I Think and/or Feel?
    The chapters on friendship and self-knowledge prompted me to evaluate the quality of my relationships and encouraged me to engage in deeper introspection. Wicks’ emphasis on solitude and mindfulness as tools for centering oneself resonated with my own experiences.
  3. What Am I Going to Do?
    I intend to invest more time in nurturing meaningful connections with friends and loved ones. Furthermore, I will commit to regular self-reflection practices and prioritize moments of solitude to cultivate mindfulness and inner peace.

Third Bounce Journal Entry

Title: Sustaining Resilience: Lessons in Hope and Self-Reflection

So What?!: In the final chapters and appendices, Wicks offers insights into maintaining resilience and provides practical tools for ongoing self-assessment and growth.

  1. What Did I Find?
    • (Wicks, 2010, p. 102-145, Appendices A and B)
      Wicks concludes by emphasizing the importance of nurturing hope and provides exercises for creating a stress-resilience profile and individual reflection.
  2. What Did I Think and/or Feel?
    The epilogue reminded me of the power of hope in navigating life’s challenges and encouraged me to cultivate a hopeful outlook. The reflection exercises in the appendices prompted me to take stock of my stress-resilience factors and identify areas for improvement.
  3. What Am I Going to Do?
    I plan to integrate Wicks’ suggestions for sustaining resilience into my daily routine, incorporating regular reflection practices and fostering a sense of hopefulness. Additionally, I will utilize the provided exercises to assess and strengthen my stress-resilience profile.
