Witnessing a Situation Involving Bias
One instance in which I witnessed bias occurred during a group project in college. Our team consisted of students from diverse cultural backgrounds, and one of my peers, who was from an international background, spoke English with an accent. Another team member often interrupted him, dismissed his ideas, and assumed he had less knowledge about the subject matter. This behavior demonstrated an implicit bias based on language proficiency and nationality, leading to an unfair dynamic in the group.
Observing this situation made me feel uncomfortable and frustrated, as I recognized the unfairness of how my peer was being treated.
